Voegtlinshoffen
Grand Cru : [ Hatschbourg ]

The Historian

"Vocelines hoven " or " Vozelin's farm " (pronouncing the " V " as " F ", like in German) is quoted as of 1188.
The village formed part of the seigneury of Rouffach, which belonged to the bishop of Strasbourg.
The count of Ferrette, in war with the bishop of Strasbourg destroyed the fortified churchyard in 1298.
Between Voegtlinshoffen, Eguisheim and Obermorschwihr, is located the sanatorium of Murbach, former abbey of regular canons hosted by the knight " Burchard of Gueberschwihr" and the provost " Manegold of Lautenbach " towards 1090.
This provost will remain famous for having asserted the right of the subjects to depose their sovereign if he carried out his mission badly .
Nearly 300 houses of devout Augustins canons adopted the customs of Murbach, and this all over Europe.
The abbey, after being sold as national property during the French Revolution, was devastated by a fire around 1820 and finally razed to ground.
