The Historian

Possession of the bishop of Strasbourg who built fortifications towards 1340.
The city was devastated during the Thirty Years War.
In Saint-Léonard existed, untill the Revolution, an abbey of Benedictines founded in the 12th century. The hamlet of Klingenthal owes its name (" valley of the blades ") to a royal manufacture of knives and weapons.

The Stroller

Remainders of the ramparts : 3 surrounding wall gateways of the 14th century.
Town Hall Square : half-timbered house: former Council's stove of the 17th century.
Town Hall of Renaissance style of the 16th century: staircase turret, angle oriel window of the 17th century; high gable.
Renaissance style well with 6 buckets going back to 1617.
Guard room and a house at number 15, on Rampart street : frontages, roofs and carriage entrance of the 16th century, at number 18, Sainte-Odile street of the 17th century, at number 25, of Rampart street : frontage.
At number 1, on Church street, carved wooden oriel window.

In the hamlet of Saint-Léonard : vestiges of a house of the 12th century, entry gateway of the abbey of the 17th century.
The Saint-Médard church : Roman bell-tower, frescos of the 12th century, master altar of 1772, nave of the 18th century.
A " Mount of Olives ", behind the church, and dating from the 17th century.
The catholic church Saint-Louis of Klingenthal, end of the 18th century.
The neo-classic Protestant church of Klingenthal, from the beginning of the 19th century.
In Saint-Léonard : the vault " Notre Dame des Neiges " going back to 1654 and restored in 1862 with statues of the 18th century.
