Localities :
An exceptional site :Located on the northern outskirts of the town of Andlau, the Kastelberg extends over a small hillock, its steep slopes exposed to the south, at an altitude ranging from 240 to 300 metres. The Kastelberg is one of the rare vineyard areas established on soils of the Vosges basement. It lies on the Steige schist of the Silurian age, unique in Alsace, which has been metamorphosed by Andlau granite, outcropping on the upper part of the site, into very hard, dark-coloured hornfels, made up of quartz, mica and chlorite. The soil is hence very stony and well-drained, mixed with granitic sand at the summit of the hill. Favoured varietals :D’une superficie de 5,82 ha, ce terroir conclut sa meilleure alliance avec le Riesling. Within living memory...First planted with vines during the Roman occupation, the Kastelberg of Andlau is one of the oldest vineyard sites in Alsace. Nor is it one of the least, as documents dating from as early as 1064 mention the production of fine wines. Typical characteristics :The charm of Riesling Alsace Grand Cru Kastelberg lies in its elegance, its virility, and its delicate, discreet bouquet. It has inherited from its unique soil all the qualities of a great wine which ages particularly well. [ Back to the top of the page ] |
