Scherwiller

The Historian

At first the village belonged to the seigniory of the valley of Villé, then to the " Habsbourg " from the 13th century until 1789.
" Rodolphe of Habsbourg " built the Ortenbourg's castle, in the 13th century, then it was ruined, but reconstructed in 14th century.
It served as base to Lords bandits and is taken in 1470 by Charles the Bold.
During the Peasants'War, on May 20th, 1525, the victorious mercenary troops of the duke of Lorraine plundered the city and massacred about 25 000 Alsatian peasants.

The Stroller

Alsatian wine village, on the river Aubach: small bridges, laundries, numerous half-timbered houses of the 16th to the 18th centuries. Old lime trees also.
The half-timbered house of the Guardroom of the 17th century with its oriel window, and its sculptured balcony.

The hostelry " The Crown ", of the 18th century, with wooden galleries.

An ancient redoubt.
The ruins of Ramstein's castle dating of the 13th century: with the remains of a tower and walls.
The town of Kientzville of the 20th century. The church of the 20th century also, crowned with a nest of storks. " Brachbrunnen's " oratory or " Fountain of the brook ", of the 19th century. Kientzville's chapel of the 20th century.
" Tannelkreuz's " chapel or " Cross of the small spruce " of the 20th century.
The Roman-Gothic chapel " Sainte Odile " which foundations are from the 12th century is a place of pilgrimage.
The chapel " Saint Wolfgang " of the end of the 17th century.
10 calvaries.
Also the former synagogue dating from the 18th century.
