Rosheim

The Historian

This ducal village was given by Frederic II of Hohenstaufen to the duke of Lorraine in 1212.
Rosheim, meanwhile became city, fortified as of the 13th century.
It appears in 1303 like imperial city and adhered to the " Decapolis ".
After having been taken in 1622 by Mansfeld, the city was plundered, set fire to and its inhabitants were massacred.
In 1632, the Swedish troops devastated it again.

The Stroller

Rosheim Saints Pierre and Paul's Church Copyright ARdVDitches and basements of Neolithic huts. Gallo Roman vestiges. Vestiges of the double surrounding wall and 4 gateways of the 13th and 14th centuries.
The most ancient Romanic house of Alsace built about between 1160 and 1170.
Numerous half-timbered houses of Renaissance style and partially Romanic style.
Halls with emblems of professions, among which some at number 198, on Church street, at numbers 93 , 113 , 211 and 402 of the General de Gaulle street.

On the City hall square the Town Hall, of style Louis XV with a Renaissance style well of the 17th century, with its 6 buckets, said " Sechseimerbrunnen " or " Six buckets well ". Two other old wells of 1527 and 1592 decorate the city.
The majestic church " Saints Pierre and Paul ", jewel of the Romanic art of the 12th century with its high barrel nave, its apse and richly decorated, the facade being decorated with sculptured groups, the octagonal bell tower partially Gothic of the 14th century, with a Romanic and Gothic capital, a Silbermann organ of the 18th century.
The church " Saint Etienne " of neo-classic style of the 18th , by Salin said " de Monfort " Montfort with bell tower of late Romanic style of the 12th century.
The chapel of " Bruderberg ", a former hermitage.
Pilgrimage of " Our Lady of the Seven Pains ".
A chapel of the 18th century. A Calvary of the 16th century.
The unrestored synagogue and the Jewish oratory.
