Localities :
An exceptional site :At 275 metres of altitude, the Sporen forms a natural cirque, its gentle slopes facing south-east. Its soil is made up of Lias clay-marl, decalcified on the surface, exceptionally rich in phosphoric acid, a factor of seasonal earlyness, itself a sign of quality. Its deep soils protect against drought in years of low rainfall, allowing the vine roots to explore the soil and extract all the trace elements which contribute to the complexity of its wines. Favoured varietals :Covering 23,70 ha, the Sporen is principally planted with Gewurztrammer and Tokay Pinot Gris. Within living memory...The archives of the Dukes of Wurtem-berg first mention the Sporen in 1432. In 1580, Fischart gave the Sporen first place among Alsace wines : "Doch gegen den Reichenweier Sporen haben Sie alle das Spiel verloren". Its wines have been sold under the vineyard name for centuries. Typical characteristics :Sporen wines are characterised by their finesse and class, richness allied to elegance. They age remarkably well. [ Back to the top of the page ] |
