The Historian

First mention of the village as of 737 under the name of Sulcia , whereas the outskirts of the village were occupied since the 5th century, as testified by some merovingian tombs .
Also known under Soultz-near-the-Quarries, following the proximity of quarries exploited as of the 17th century.
Known during the 15th century, the episcopal village was also a thermal spa, which burnt out in 1913.

The church " Saint Maurice " with its square apse and transept of 14th to the 15th century, the nave of the 15th century, the octagonal bell-tower of the 17th century with its base dating from the 12th century, the vaulted porch, the Gothic tympanum decorated with a horse, carved keystones, the pulpit of Renaissance style, the sculptured organ case of 1762, its instrumental part built by Silbermann in 1762, enlarged by Stiehr in 1865.
