Rodern

The Historian

The parish was attached to the bishopric of Basle until 744 .

The village is at this time already quoted in the list of the wine villages of Alsace.

Rodern is quoted towards 1200 under the name of
" Rodere " or " clearing ".

Rodern belonged to the Lords of " Rappolstein " who sold it to the " Habsbourg " in 1313.

An anthracite mine was exploited there from 1772 till 1850.

The Stroller

Neolithic finds.

Some old houses of the 15th to the 18th century.

Notably the " Schloessel " or "a small castle ", a small manor house of the 18th century .

The church Saint Georges of the 18th century : the base of its bell tower is of Gothic style, the furniture is of baroque and rustic styles.
