Obermorschwihr" Morswilare " is quoted as early as the 10th century: It is under this name that Obermorschwihr was at that time part of the seigniory of Rouffach, itself part of the bishopric of Strasbourg.
The lords of " Hattstatt " continuously disputed the properties which the canons of Murbach owned there.
In 1298, the count of Ferrette, at that time in war against the bishop of Strasbourg, destroyed the fortified cemetery. His troops, after having seized the village, smashed the inhabitants' wine barrels.
